	The talent of R.G.D.s across the province was recognized at Design Edge's first-ever Regional Design Awards On June 21, Design Edge Canada’s 2010 Regional Design Awards ceremony and reception took place at the Roosevelt Room in Toronto. This unique awards program celebrates the best of Canadian graphic design from all corners of the country. The contest received nearly 500 entries. A panel of eight judges, one from each region, selected 142 finalists for awards in 13 categories, including logo, identity applications, packaging, student work and more. Of these finalists, 58 winners were chosen. One project within each region was named “Best of Region” and received top honours for the night. R.G.D.s were awarded “Best of Region” in the three of regions representing Ontario. Ben Hagon R.G.D. of Hagon Design Inc., based in Kitchener, was recognized with three awards, including Best of Region-Ontario for the “Hagon Design New Years Promo”. Peter Gabany R.G.D. of Limelight Advertising & Design in Port Hope won two awards, including Best of Region-Ontario Golden Horseshoe for its “Fare Share Food Bank Logo”. Fidel Pena R.G.D. and Claire Dawson R.G.D. of Underline Studio won three awards, including Best of Region-Toronto for their “Ben Weeks Has Many Loves” poster. Gilbert Li R.G.D. of The Office of Gilbert Li and Karl Thomson R.G.D. of Compass360 won awards in the Toronto region. Elizabeth Wong R.G.D. of Canada Post was recognized with an award in the Ottawa region. Provisional RGD Narani Kannan and Ashley Brown, Student RGD Ontario were also recognized with awards. All finalists and winners will be showcased in the Design Annual published by Design Edge Canada, which will be distributed as part of the July/August issue. Award Producer Doug Bennet was extremely pleased with the awards program and is already planning for next year. “Canadian designers are amazingly talented and we want to recognize that with our program.
