  • Communications Committee

    Chair: Bob Hambly RGD
    Members: Julian Brown, Lionel Gadoury RGD, Tina Mackenzie RGD, Rod Nash RGD, Karen Satok RGD

    Mandate:

    • Stewardship of the Association’s corporate identity and external communications strategy.
    • Propose, develop and review strategies to raise awareness of the Association.
    • Faciliate communication between the Association and its members.
    • Encourage communication of the Association’s mission and activities to people, corporations, governments and institutions across Ontario;
    • Inform students of accredited academic institutions of the Association’s mandate, activities and availability of membership.
       

    Committee Member Criteria:

    • Interest in and/or understanding of RGD brand and overall communications strategy.
    • Time to contribute to the work of the committee via email feedback, teleconference discussions and independent and group work.
    • Professional Membership in RGD.
    • Prior or current experience on the RGD Board is preferred.

  • Education Committee

    Chair: Karen Satok RGD
    Members: Molly Hill RGD, Gil Martinez RGD, Andrew McLachlan RGD, Phil Mondor RGD, Megan Oldfield RGD, Laura Piché RGD, Ryanne Spies RGD

    Mandate:

    • Review programs and services that RGD is currently offering to students and recent grads and identify how it can make improvements to ensure RGD is furnishing the means by which students may enhance their knowledge, skill and effectiveness as graphic designers.
    • Identify and advise on opportunities for RGD to expand and develop its programs and services for students and recent grads.
    • Identify and advise on opportunities for RGD to increase its exposure to students and recent grads.
    • Identify and recruit sponsor partners/suppliers to support RGD programs and services for students and recent grads.
    • Identity and advise on opportunities for RGD to help increase standards of knowledge, skill, professional conduct and ethics for all graphic designers, particularly as it pertains to post-secondary graphic design education programs across Ontario.

       

    Committee Member Criteria:

    • Interest in and/or understanding of graphic design education in Ontario.
    • Experience working with students and/or attending RGD student events and/or knowledge of RGD programming for students.
    • Time to contribute to the work of the committee via email feedback, teleconference discussions and independent and group work.
    • Membership in RGD.

  • Ethics Committee

    Chair: Stüssy Tschudin RGD
    Members: Luc Bergeron RGD, Erin Boyce RGD, Lionel Gadoury RGD, Gil Martinez RGD, Mark McAllister RGD, Rod Nash RGD, Craig Swistun RGD

    Mandate:

    • Review and revise RGD’s Rules of Professional Conduct as needed.
    • Codify Rules of Professional Conduct to ensure they are clear and explicit on specific situations that are common in the industry.
    • Advise on ethical issues that may arise from both design professionals, educators, managers and/or buyers of design.
    • Assist with spec work advocacy by identifying and reacting to instances where the Rules are compromised, particularly in the area of spec work.
    • Review and assist to write questions for the Rules of Professional Conduct section of the Registered Graphic Designers Qualification Examination.
    • Develop presentation/resources to assist applicants to prepare and successfully complete the Rules section on the Exam.
       

    Committee Member Criteria:

    • Interest in and understanding of RGD’s Rules of Professional Conduct.
    • Interest in and understanding of the ethical issues being faced in the industry, including with educational institutions, with clients, within in-house departments and within design firms.
    • Time to contribute to the work of the committee via email feedback, teleconference discussions and independent and group work.
    • Professional RGD.

  • Membership Committee

    Mandate:

    • Review, examine and recommend to the Board applications for membership in the category applied for, on a monthly basis, and present recommendation Examine the status of membership on an ongoing basis, including retention, recruitment and member satisfaction;
    • Consider all requests for membership status change, including resignations, terminations and reinstatements.
    • Seek input and make decisions on membership applications, membership reinstatement applications and membership reclassification.
    • Propose, develop and review recommendations for programs and services available to members.
    • Propose, develop and review recommendations for membership recruitment strategies.

    • Time to contribute to the work of the committee via email feedback, teleconference discussions and independent and group work.

    The Provisional Committee was created to develop new ideas, programs and benefits for Provisional RGD members.

    This Committee meets monthly. Committee members may participate in the evening meeting in downtown Toronto in person or by phone through a special toll-free number.

    Mandate:

    • Propose, develop and review strategies to raise awareness of the Association and the RGD designation with business.
    • Propose, develop and review strategies to raise awareness of the Association and the RGD designation in the media.
    • Review and comment on on-going RGD public relations and advertising.

    The Student Rep Committee advises RGD’s Board on how to best serve the needs of RGD Student Members, develops programs and services that benefit students, assists to raise awareness of RGD to students and unites students from schools across Ontario.
